21 April 1965 – Jeugdluchtvaartdag
For the eight time the Royal Netherlands Air Force organized an event for high school scholars. The object of this event was to interested them in a future carreer in the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
This year it was an one-day event and was held on a rainy Wednesday 21 April 1965. Around 1800 young visitors visited Soesterberg AB. In the morning the visitors could watch several exhibitions as well as some static aircraft. A special treat was the landing of the Dutch Government Friendship that brought the president of Tanzania to the Netherlands. The young visitors could witness him being greeted by Prins Bernard.
After a joint lunch in the hangars the afternoon was reserved for the airshow. Despite the rainy weather there was plenty to see. Dutch Starfighters, Thunderstreaks and Hunters performed a display. Also the USAF was present with a few flyby’s from Delta Daggers from the 32nd TFS. The spectacular finale was the demo of “Whisky Four” , the demo team of the Royal Netherlands Air Force in their T-33’s. Two months later two of the T-33’s crashed into each other during the airshow at Woensdrecht AB, killing both pilots.
