29 April – 7 May 1995 Liberation Festival
From April 29 to May 7, 1995, the 50th anniversary of the liberation was celebrated with a large week-long festival at the air base and in the village of Soesterberg.
During the festivities, the air base was open to the public throughout the entire week, from Saturday, April 29 through Sunday, May 7, 1995. For nine consecutive days, the military airfield hosted the national “50 Years of Liberation” commemoration.
Every day featured flying activities and aerial demonstrations. Visitors had the opportunity to see historic combat aircraft on the ground and in the air, including the famous Lancaster bomber, the B-17 Flying Fortress, the P-51 Mustang and the P-47 Thunderbolt.
The highlight of the festivities took place on Saturday, May 6, with flybys by aircraft and helicopters of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, including a formation of 16 F-16s.
