3 October 1952 – Meteor
On 22 July 1952 around 13:00 hours, Gloster Meteor F.Mk.8 with serial I-161 crashed near the border of the towns of Amersfoort and Leusden.
Due to suddenly bad weather and visibility, one of the Meteors of a formation of four crashed on a property owned by the Dutch ‘Heidemaatschappij’.
On the ground no one was hurt, but pilot H.C. Schmitz was killed. Near the crashsite the remains of a parachute were found indicating that the pilot tried to bail out.
