29 June 1956 – F-86 Sabre
On 29 June 1956 a F-86K Sabre with serial Q-264 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force had an engine failure while landing at Soesterberg AB. Due to engine trouble the aircraft couldn’t reach the runway and crashed near de Kampweg in Soesterberg. The pilot, L. van den Akker, managed to leave the wreck unharmed.
This was the first crash of a F-86, which were in service since December 1955.
