26 October 1959 – F-100C

F-100C 54-1884 from the 32nd was heavily damaged during an accident on Soesterberg AB on 26 October 1959.

Around 2:30 in the afternoon two F-100s returned to Soesterberg AB after a normal training mission. One F-100 experienced minor difficulties. The pilot of the 54-1884, 1st Lt. Jack Cebe-Habersky, dropped his wing off and executed a go around. He stayed in the local area and burned some fuel. After 20 minutes Lt. Cebe-Habersky returned to Soesterberg and landed his aircraft. What seemed to be a normal landing changed when the right wing suddenly dropped, causing the aircraft to stear to the right. A blown tire caused the aircraft to be entirely steerless. The drag chute was deployed but couldn’t prevent the aircraft from leaving the runway crossing some grass areas and coming to a stop while crossing runway 31.

Pilot Cebe-Habersky left the aircraft uninjured. The same pilot had a landing accident two years earlier at Wheelus AB. The aircraft was repaired, but ultimately written off on 17 November 1960.
