23 July 1957 – F-100C

On 23 July 1957 around 11.30 in the morning the F-100C with serial number 54-2029 of the 32nd ran off the runway at Soesterberg AB.

After a simulated combat mission from two F-100s the aircraft returned to Soesterberg AB. Where the first aircraft landed, pilot 1 Lt. Eugene E. Malish decided to make another turn to burn fuel. Thereafter the aircraft made a smooth and light touchdown. After the nosewheel touched the runway the aircraft suddenly began veering to the left. At that point the F-100 was unsteerable. It continued through the grass for about 330 feet where it crossed runway 31. There the nosewheel broke off and after another slide throught the grass the aircraft stopped.

Lt. Malish was able to climb out of the aircraft. The F-100 was written off.
