12 December 1962 – F-102A
On Wednesday 12 December 1962, F-102A with serial 56-0973 from the 32nd returned to Soesterberg AB when suddenly fog banks appeared. Out of nothing there was less than 50 meters of visibility. Partly due to these circumstances the aircraft crashed when it was on final approach.
The plane crashed on the grounds of the Dutch Army Base ‘Dumoulin’ only meters away from an ammunition bunker. The pilot, 1st Lt. Henderson, ejected before the F-102 hit the ground and was unhurt. The F-102 was completely destroyed, but fortunately nobody on the ground got injured.
